Tapapa Marae

Ground was broken on the Tapapa Marae Project outside Tirau in March 2020 and the build was completed 6 months later in October.

It is part of a three phase project which will involve the establishment of a Whare Horoi and Wharekai over the next 12-18 months. The use of the rammed earth technique which constructs structural walls using natural raw materials, took place over the winter and utilised 300m2 of rammed earth. The publicly funded project involved members of the Tapapa Marae Trust who found learning the skills incredibly rewarding. The Marae uses a combination of modern technology with traditional building methods to create a beautiful and functional large space with smaller rooms radiating from it.
