Though Empire Street’s Retail and Office space was a new design and build for commercial use, it was situated in the Heritage Zone in Cambridge. This meant that Construction Advantage had to manage a Resource Consent process so that the design captured the feel of the area.

The timeframe was tight during a winter build, which Construction Advantage monitored daily to deliver on budget and on time. From feasibility to handover flexibility and communication was key to working with contractors and Council to bring forward any aspects of the project that we could.

At 400 square metres per floor, the building has a concrete floor, precast concrete walls and a steel framework. The exterior was designed for minimal maintenance, purpose-built fit outs for each tenancy were made with a high quality interior with lift and flexibility to accommodate future changes in tenants relatively easily.

Sited in the Heritage Zone of Cambridge, Construction Advantage went through a resource consent process to ensure the feel of the building was right for the area and the design captured the heritage aspect by reflecting the details on buildings on the main street of Cambridge in the precast panels. Veranda details were aligned with old Cambridge as were the high windows.
